John and Barbara in Sella

The view from the Tower Room alone was worth the week’s rent.

Dear Benny and Harco,

If your holiday in the Far East is half as good as the one we have had at Sella, you will truly have enjoyed yourselves. This was our sixth visit to Sella, but our first stay at Villa Pico. It will not be our last.

Although we were the only guests we never felt alone as we had Gilly on hand to answer all our questions, discuss walking routes and weather conditions, and, of course, to catch up on village gossip.

She really is a treasure – I called her the egg fairy as every morning, when we came down to breakfast, a warm boiled egg awaited us (along with hot coffee or tea, fresh bread and orange juice).

The view from the Tower Room alone was worth the week’s rent. In late spring it must be fantastic with the plunge pool virtually outside your door.

Most of our week was spent walking, using Gill Round’s book as our guide. The best walks, strangely enough, were those within sight of the village, up on the Ponoig, Sanchet or the Campana. We had several good bright days and one brilliant day, up on the Aitana, when it snowed heavily. We were the only ones on the mountain and it was a real pre-Christmas treat.

As I say, we will definitely be back. It would be nice to meet you guys and see the almond blossom in the spring. But an especial thanks to Gilly, who is as wonderful as Sella itself.
